I am feeling rather duped.
Although the idealist in me would like our elected representatives to be motivated by a spirit of public service rather than by financial gain, I have long felt that MPs are underpaid. Their annual salary of £64,766 is well below that of an established professional and thus I have considered it too low to attract candidates of calibre. Until this week, this went some way to explain the difficiencies in those who represent us - we get what we pay for. But how wrong I was!
Well done the Daily Telegraph!
A genuine blow for Open Government and Democracy.
Time for some local accountability - let's have an election!
